Spa Sweethearts September meeting – Susan Parry author and crime novelist.
In our September meeting we had a visit and talk by author Susan Parry She gave us a real insight into her life growing up in the south of England, a shy girl who loved to read books. After going through high school it was time to choose her A levels. Her father encouraged her to study science (she chose chemistry), which he hoped would influence her to continue studying at University. So that’s the path she followed and ended up working as a college lecturer and becoming a professor in research. This led her to working for the defense in a few criminal cases along with her business partner, who is a archeologist. Their main analysis was to test soil from the crime scene, vehicle wheels, shoes and clothing, which included forensics. So this knowledge was put to good use in her book writing. Eventually her family moved to Swaledale, which is where her novels are set and surrounding areas. Susan has written a whole series of 12 novels called the Yorkshire Dales Mysteries and is in the process of writing her new series of crime novels. A very interesting evening! Everyone who attended the meeting enjoyed her story and asked some very interesting questions. They also enjoyed light refreshments provided of tea, coffee and yummy homemade caramel and apple cake supplied by Geraldine and Shirley. The whole evening was a success and one lucky member won a signed copy of her latest book in the raffle.
