March Meeting – Plumb Mum

Our March meeting speaker Elisa Foyle aka (Plumb Mum) made a big splash telling us about becoming a lady plumber. She referenced facts about understanding your central heating systems, depending on if it is gravity feed or if you have a combi boiler. What to do in case of emergency leaks and to know the point of your stop tap and tips on how to isolate other types of leaks, before calling a plumber. Shocked us with facts on water usage and possible wastage. The largest use of household water is flushing the toilet and a year of a dripping tap can waste up to 5000 litres of water. Demonstrated how to correctly connect piping and the types of equipment to use, then challenged 4 teams to connect pipes together and do the water test looking for leaks, mission successful! The evening was a big hit with the ladies, who found it very interesting and lots of fun.

We enjoyed refreshments of hot or cold drinks, accompanied with a slice of homemade red velvet or lemon drizzle cake, beginning the evening with a chance for a social chat. Member Felicity Jennings spoke about the new WI online platform called Via, which replaces the WI hub. It offers many different online courses to all members of WI for free but is also open to non-members for a fee. The book table was available to be browsed for a new read and will be there again in April so please donate any completed books for exchange.
